Design, development and testing of a Palm remote-connect system for an FMCG major

The Client
A US-based global FMCG major, manufacturing and distributing family, personal and household care products.

Business need
The client sales team collects important field-data on a Palm hand-held computer (HHC). The data is later synchronized with the back-end system and the sales-team's schedule for the next day is downloaded to the HHC. However, since the synchronization happens only when the team reports back to office, data latency is a major issue, particularly when the sales team visits far-flung areas. Thus, a solution was required which would enable remote synchronization of the HHC with the back-end system, thereby obviating the need for sales team to report back at office daily.
