A leading UK-based ISV for the agriculture business.

Business need
The client has been using hand-held computers (HHCs) to collect data from the field and transferring it over serial port to the master database at regular intervals. This type of serial communication is slow and quite time consuming when data from multiple HHCs has to be transferred, as only one HHC data transfer can be done at a point in time. They wanted to develop a system that would enable:

	Faster transfer of data, using Ethernet
	Concurrent data transfer from multiple HHCs.
